Violence & Anti-Social Behaviour
Alcohol causes a loss of judgement and self-control and increases emotional reactions.
In other words, if someone or something makes you frustrated, upset, angry or annoyed whilst you are under the influence of alcohol – you are more likely to over-react than you would if sober.
This can include:
- physical or verbal abuse
- mistreating of another person or property
- name calling
- shouting
- fighting
- disruptive behaviour.
Did you know…
- Men are more than twice as likely to commit a violent crime whilst under the influence of alcohol, than women
- 16% of young male drinkers have committed a violent crime whilst drunk
- 7% of women binge drinkers have committed a violent crime whilst drunk
- 13,000 violent incidents take place outside UK bars, pubs and clubs every week – most of which are alcohol-related.
